The Three P’s: Passion, Perseverance and Purpose

I recently wrote about the fabulous women in Hollywood that I strive to emulate; Glenn Close, Meryl Streep…the list goes on and on.  I find that the more I read about passionate successful women the more I learn how long and hard they worked to get to where they are now.

I tuned into one of my long time friend’s blog today.  She recently had a beautiful baby girl and is knee-deep in new adventures and challenges.  I remember meeting this woman when I was 18 working at a Texas Roadhouse in a very small town in Indiana.  She was 20 something-finishing her degree and she was radiating positive extraordinary energy.  She was amazing.  We bonded immediately and the more time I spent with her the more I realized how exceptional she really is.  At that time we really did not know what our goals were or where we were headed.  I was there when she met Ken (her now husband) and I remember the ways he swept her off of her feet (quite literally, actually).  I attended their beautiful wedding ceremony and watched as Erin walked down the aisle tears of joys streaming down my face.  It was a magical day and the perfect kick off to their lives together.

I have followed Erin over the past 8 years via her online presence from her Twitter to her Design for Mankind blog to her DIY contribution to HGTV.com.  I met up with her in New York City about two years ago and was not at all surprised to see the same extraordinary energy radiating from her.   We walked the streets of Manhattan catching up on the years we had missed and I was so proud to still call her my friend and hear about her adventures to Los Angeles and then back to Ft. Wayne.  (oh yes and thank you Erin for letting me borrow those adorable dresses and Fed Ex them back to you….your style is so genius I struggled with whether to actually send them back to you or not!).

Now as I reflect back on Erin’s progress not only as a woman but as a writer, artist and designer I cannot help but realize that I am actually friends with one of the Glenn Close and Meryl Streep’s of our generation.  While Erin is not an actress in Hollywood she is a result of passion, perseverance and purpose; the three P’s that are the secrets to success (in whatever it is that you want to do).

My favorite post that I stumbled upon today was this one: “Things I am Afraid to Tell You” an inside look at what makes Erin tick as well as what makes her want to jump behind the curtain and hide.  Brave and honest.

You can find Erin everywhere these days.  She is one of the “Top 50 Parents on Pinterest“, she recently popped up on “The Nate Burkus Show” (No big deal) and her work as been featured by Glamour “Funny Things That Surprise Me About Marriage” and has serious mentions in The Huffington Post and Lucky Magazine.  You can also find out more on how Erin got where she is in this 2012 article “Fort Wayne-based interior designer Erin Loechner attracts world wide interest”.

So aside from admiring Erin for giving a voice to women all over and creating a place for them to go and be inspired I also know that she did not get there overnight by sitting around doing nothing.  This woman has Passion, Perseverance and Purpose.  I wanted to highlight her as a reminder to all of you out there that you can be anyone you want to be and do anything you want to do.

It proves once again that small town girls with big time dreams can make things happen. Here’s to you Erin!  Thanks for bringing your positive radiating energy into my life 8 years ago and for showing women that when you overcome fear, anything is possible!

“Frightened? Child, you’re talking to a man who’s laughed in the face of death, sneered at doom, and chuckled at catastrophe… I was petrified.”-The Wizard of Oz
